Carmen Pancerella is a proud resident of Newton for the past 23 years. She and her husband, Tim Strayer, have two daughters, Ellie and Abby: both graduates of Franklin Elementary, Day Middle School, and Newton North High School. While her daughters were in the Newton Public Schools, Carmen volunteered in many ways: served on the School Council at Franklin Elementary, served on the Creative Arts and Sciences Committee at Franklin, and was an active parent volunteer for Theatre Ink, Newton North High School’s Teaching and Working Theatre. Carmen was a Girl Scout Troop leader in Newton for 12 years and a First Lego League Robotics Coach for 4 years. She continues to serve as a First Lego Robotics Judge for both Newton Regional Tournaments and the Massachusetts State Tournament. Professionally, Carmen is a principal member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California, where she has been a remote worker for 23 years. Carmen holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Virginia.
