Partners in Innovation – NSF & NPS

Nov. 20, 2025

Supporting innovation in classrooms across Newton is one of Newton Schools Foundation’s three core pillars.  At a recent NSF gathering, we heard compelling testimony from our educational leaders at NPS about why our partnership in this area is so critical.

Moderated by NSF Vice President, Karen Carroll Bennett, our panel included…

  • Dr Anna Nolin, Superintendent of Newton Public Schools
  • Heather Hotchkiss, Newton North HS Science Department Head
  • Elizabeth Butler-Everitt, NPS PK-12 Science Director
  • Jan Molina and Ricardo Huguet, Robotix
  • Gregory Blaize, The Boston Drone School

The panel conveyed the “why”, the ‘how” and the “urgency of now” of funding innovative STEM programming in classrooms across the district. We all walked away enlightened as to the many ways a thoughtful and well-resourced STEM education benefits and empowers  preK -12 students. It was extraordinary to hear about the ambition of our educators, the creativity and commitment of our community partners, and the inspired vision of our superintendent to elevate STEM throughout the district.
