April Stein
April Stein, a graduate of the Newton Public Schools, has been volunteering at all levels of NPS
for over 15 years. She has extensive experience in finance for non-profits, having set up
several 501©3s and acting as treasurer. Some of the NPS groups that April has been treasurer
for include the Peirce Elementary School PTO, The Day Middle School PTO, the Newton North
High School (NNHS) PTSO, the NNHS Athletics Department, NNHS’ TheatreInk, and the Global
Education Leadership Fund (GELF), which provides financial aid to students to participate in
school-sponsored foreign exchange programs and trips. April has also volunteered for the
schools in the areas of Creative Arts and library.
With an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from Harvard College,
April has spent time in retail banking and strategy consulting for financial services companies.
April currently holds the position of Finance Committee Chairperson for The Second Step, a
group that provides housing, programs, support and legal services for survivors of domestic
violence.
April and her husband have four children, ages 23, 20, 18 and 6 – all past or current attendees
of the Newton Public Schools.
